Fill Sand (best for leveling and to put under concrete)
Fill sand is comprised of the finest particles of rock that have been broken down and eroded throughout the centuries. It is known for being attractive and affordable and for promoting healthy drainage around wet areas.
Mason sand is created in the same way as concrete sand but is crushed finer. It is also created at the quarry by crushing granite, gneiss, limestone or trap rock then washing it through screens to ensure the uniformity of the grains.
It can be used in cement, particularly for projects like swimming pools and concrete paving stones where the finer grain gives a more finished appearance. It’s finer texture also makes it an acceptable replacement for beach sand in applications like sand volleyball courts.
Torpedo Sand (best for drainage and Pavers)
Torpedo sand is also sometimes referred to as concrete sand since it is often used in concrete mixes. This course grade of sand has superior drainage ability. Though Torpedo sand is often used in concrete mixes, it also has a variety of other uses. Torpedo sand can also be used for:
- Paver leveling
- Concrete mixes
- Stone walls
